Rae Kells - 2007 Winner
 

The RAY KINGSMITH MEMORIAL AWARD was first established in 1988 to recognize an individual for her "Outstanding" contributions to women's curling. Rae Kells is the 2007 Ray Kingsmith recipient; she has dedicated many years towards the promotion and enjoyment of curling at various levels across Canada.

Rae began instructing curling in 1983, and ran junior programs in Sherwood Park and Ottawa . She was a provincial course conductor for 17 years, first in Nova Scotia and then in Alberta, teaching the Level I and II Technical and Officiating courses. She is a certified Level III coach and has coached Jr. Women, Women, and Sr. Women in Ontario , Nova Scotia and Alberta . She is a Level V National Championship Head Official and over the past 15 years has been a Supervising or Head Official at an incredible 24 Canadian and World Championships. Rae has written Officiating Manuals for Nova Scotia and Alberta . She was the recipient of the Sport Nova Scotia Volunteer of the Year award for Women's curling in 1992, and recipient of the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation's Officiating Recognition Award in 2003. She is an active curler in the Calgary Ladies Curling Club and was President of the league during the 2003-2004 season.

Rae was the first female Head Official of the Brier and first female as Chief Umpire of the World Championships. She is currently a member of the National Officiating Committee and represents the Canadian Curling Association on the Sport Committee of the Calgary Olympic Development Association (CODA). She was Head Official at the 2004 Scott Tournament of Hearts in Red Deer . She officiated at the 2005 World Junior Championships in Pinerolo , Italy , and at the 2006 Olympic Games in Torino , Italy . She was the Head Official of the Women's World Championships that were held in Grand Prairie in 2006. In March 2007, she was Chief Umpire of the Women's World Championships in Aomori, Japan .

Rae represented the C.C.A. in Perth, Scotland in September 2007 to discuss the world curling rules with the World Curling Federation. She was selected as the C.C.A. Liaison and Alternate Head Official for the 2008 Canadian Mixed Championship held at the Calgary Curling Club November 2007. She was the Assistant Chief Umpire for the Men's World Championships in Grand Forks, North Dakota in April 2008.

Rae's devotion and contributions to the sport of curling throughout the years have been exceptional. She is truly a "Lady" in every way, always conducting herself in a most friendly but professional manner. With all these extraordinary credentials and vast knowledge of the game, it is obvious why Rae was selected as the winner of the 2007 Ray Kingsmith Award.
